About Us

Our story begins with two friends - Steve & Ilse.

In 1997, they met at NETC in Boston -- Steve, the network engineer and Ilse, the operations manager. By 1999, they were both living in Vermont's Mad River Valley and developing a new business plan: Help people utilize the Internet for their business needs.

On March 6, 2000, Steve launched the Internet-consulting business, VickeryHill.com, in grand fashion with his little-publicized, but much enjoyed, SmartBeetle trip. Forty-six days later, he was back in Vermont working on Harpoon Brewery's online storefront. By October, Steve was busy, needed full-time help... and so Ilse officially joined VickeryHill.

Combining new technology, creativity and our unique strengths, VickeryHill's goal is to deliver a top-rate experience comprised of quality web design and effective Internet solutions followed by continuous site improvement and proactive customer service.

And above all else... we are here to help!

	Steve Butcher, co-founder, sales & engineering Raised on a farm in Michigan, partially educated in Boston and full time in Vermont, Steve started VickeryHill.com with Ilse Sigmund in 2000 after a long stint in Local and Wide Area Networking with everyNetwork in Boston, New York City, San Francisco, Atlanta, London and who knows where else. He currently lives on Vickery Hill Road in Warren, walks to work and spends time with his wife Carrie, dog Sadie and the Warren Volunteer Fire Department.

	Ilse Sigmund, co-founder, developer Ilse started VickeryHill.com with Steve in 2000. Life before VickeryHill included Middlebury College, founding student travel business NETC in Boston, MA, corporate stint at IDX in Burlington, VT and travel to as many new destinations as possible in between. Ilse currently splits her time between Jersey City, NJ and Moretown, VT and enjoys spending time with husband Don, two sons Kurt & Derek, friends and family.

	Jay Pompar, developer Jay joined Vickery Hill in May 2005 and is primarily responsible for the development, maintenance, and search engine optimization of client websites. Prior to his arrival, he was the Marketing & Directory Administrator at Waitsfield & Champlain Valley Telecom. Jay currently resides in Fort Myers, Florida. Jay recently attended BruceClay's SEOToolSet training course in California and is spearheading our new Search Engine Marketing (SEM) service.

	Jeremy McKittrick, developer Jeremy was born & raised on the coast of Maine and attended Hamilton College in New York. He joined Vickery Hill from the Mad River Valley's Sugarbush Resort, where he worked as the E-Marketing Manager. Jeremy likes skiing, ultimate frisbee & Spanish League soccer.He currently lives in Waterbury with his wife, Diana. (¡Viva el Perú!)

The SmartBeetle Trip

The original idea began back in November of 1999, while working hard to avoid tragedy in the computer industry should problems arise with non-Y2K compliant software, I reflected on life and my place in it. Ten years in Boston with only two years of college completed, a successful working career, a failed marriage, a hugely successful IT consulting company, everynetwork, up and running for 4 years and a burning desire to move to Vermont...

I figured the way to work things out was to really take Lent thing to heart. I decided that i would give up society for Lent of 2000. I would retrofit my 1998 Volkswagon Beetle, sell my shares in the business, move to Vermont and drive the literal fringe of the country for 40 days and 40 nights.
